La nostalgia del non invocabile

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Editor’s note: According to St Athanasius, “the Son of God became
man so that we might become God” (de inc. 54, 3). But in order
to attain this “participated divinization,” one has to identify one’s
will with the will of God: “if anyone wants to be a follower of
mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day
and follow me” (Lk 9:23). However, against such an uncondition-
al surrender of the sinful (that is, despotic and disorderly) inclina-
tions of the self, there arise several kinds of temptation: from the
negation of the very existence of God to the rejection of His mercy,
from the allegation of the impossibility of knowing Him to the for-
mulation of erratic projects, alternative to the Christian way, to
achieve His proximity.
